Where are you going next?

I’ve turned my life abroad into detailed travel guides for the destinations and cities I know the best.

I love exploring lesser-known places and hidden gems in the cities I live in and visit, and to truly get under the skin of a country and a region.

My guides to Argentina and Spain come from years of actually living there: the neighbourhoods I walked every day, the parrillas my husband’s family swears by, the mistakes I made along the way so you don’t have to!

When I write about places I’ve visited rather than lived, like Miami or Cuba, I’ll tell you that upfront. You deserve to know whether advice comes from seven years or seven days.

My story of traveling

Hi! I’m Becci, a Dane who left Copenhagen.

I boarded my first flight when I was less than two years old, and travel throughout Europe and Asia with my mum as a kid.

When I was 19 years old, I moved alone to Granada in Southern Spain. Since then, I have travelled and lived in several different locations, including studying Spanish in Cuba and starting a new life in Buenos Aires!

I was supposed to stay in Buenos Aires for only six months for an exchange semester on my undergraduate degree. But I ended up staying for seven years; studying two Master’s Degrees, starting my professional career, marrying an Argentine, and travelling to several different parts of Argentina.

Today, I’m back in the country where it all started: Spain!

Since 2023, my Argentine husband and I (and our dog Baloo) have been calling Spain home, and I have been able to travel to many new places and revisit old favorites throughout Spain.

My Favorite Destinations

After more than 10 years abroad, I have collected some of my best and most unique experiences in travel destinations around the world for you here on the blog!

Europe

I grew up in Denmark and now live in Spain, so my European guides come from both sides: the local who grew up there, and the expat learning a new country from scratch.

The Americas

The American continent stretches from South America through Central America and all the way to North America. While there are still many places I haven’t visited in the Americas (but it’s definitely on my list!), it is a continent that I frequently visit.

South America is the region I know most deeply and where my guides go far beyond the standard tourist checklist.

I travelled to Cuba for the first time in 2011 and stayed for almost 5 months, while studying Spanish as a foreign language at the University of Havana.

In 2016, I moved to Buenos Aires, planning to stay 6 months. I ended up staying seven years. I travelled around Argentina and truly got under the skin of the country!

In 2021, I stayed in Miami with my boyfriend (now husband) for almost 2 months, and explored many parts of Florida’s Latino city. In 2026, we went back to visit for a week, and I started writing down my knowledge and experiences as a seasonal Miami visitor.

What to Expect

How I Write My Travel Guides

The internet is absolutely full of travel guides. So why should you trust mine?

Here are the three principles I write my travel guides after: firsthand experiences, local and practical details, and exploring hidden gems and lesser-known places.

Let’s look at them one by one!

Firsthand Experiences

Every single guide on Becci Abroad is based on my own firsthand experience, either from actually living in a destination or from travelling there myself. And I’ll always tell you which one it is.

When I write about Buenos Aires, you’re getting seven years of daily life: the neighbourhoods I walked through every morning, the cafés I became a regular at, and all the mistakes I made along the way.

When I write about somewhere like Miami, where I have visited several times but never officially lived long-term, I’ll tell you that upfront too. Because advice from seven years and advice from seven days are two very different things, and you deserve to know which one you’re reading.

Local and Practical Details

Living abroad has also taught me to see destinations the way locals experience them, not the way a quick press trip does. That means my guides go beyond the standard top-10 lists (and most of the time end up being more like 25+ things to experience in a city!).

I’ll give you the practical details you can actually act on: addresses, opening hours, how to get there, and roughly what things cost. And I do my best to keep them updated as things change.

And maybe most importantly: I’ll give you my honest take. If a famous attraction turned out to be overrated, crowded, or simply not worth your precious travel time, I’ll say so. I’d much rather point you towards the places that genuinely surprised me than pretend everything is equally amazing. Because it isn’t – and we both know it!

Hidden gems & Lesser-known Spots

I have a real soft spot for the places most guidebooks skip, and for finding a city’s hidden gems and a region’s lesser-known spots.

Don’t get me wrong! I’ll happily tell you about the big sights too, and some of them are famous for very good reasons.

But after seven years in Buenos Aires, I learned that the moments I treasure most rarely happened at the landmarks on every postcard. They happened at places like the Feria de Mataderos, a folk market on the edge of the city that most visitors never hear about, or on a day trip from Buenos Aires to the lesser-known small town of San Isidro, just north of Buenos Aires.

And even when I write about popular cities like Barcelona, Madrid, or Copenhagen, I always try to dig a layer deeper than the usual suspects: the viewpoints locals actually go to, the neighbourhoods beyond the city centre, and the corners of the city where you can still hear more Spanish (or Catalan) than English.

So if you’re the kind of traveller who loves wandering off the beaten path (or at least a few streets away to a place you never heard about), I think you’ll feel right at home here at Becci Abroad!

My Favorite Travel Resources

Once you know where you’re going, you’ll probably start wondering about the practical side of things: where to book, which tools to use, and how to avoid paying more than you need to.

I’ve gathered all the booking platforms, apps, and resources that I actually use myself (not just the ones with the best affiliate programmes) over on my Travel Resource page, but here are some of my favorite ones to get you started:

Moving Abroad

Thinking of more than a trip?

If you’ve caught yourself daydreaming about something more than just a two-week holiday and if you’re wondering what it would actually be like to pack up your life and move abroad?

Then I’ve been exactly where you are! Several times, in fact!

First I left Denmark for Spain, then came back to Denmark. Only to jump on a plane to Cuba, and then back to Scandinavia, where I moved to Sweden for two years. Finally, I ended up in Argentina for seven years, met my husband, and decided we wanted to move from Buenos Aires to Spain.

I’ve written all about that journey, from the paperwork to the homesickness to the moments that made it all worth it, over in my living abroad guide.

Argentina and Spain, without question.

I lived in Buenos Aires for seven years and now live in Spain, so those guides are based on my daily life in the countries – not a single visit.

I also write about Denmark (where I’m from), plus destinations I’ve travelled to like Miami, Cuba, and Colombia.

I update guides regularly, prioritising practical details like opening hours, prices, and transport.

Please note that Argentina and Buenos Aires guides are particularly difficult to keep up to date due to Argentina’s high inflation. Please double-check the prices at the location and attractions’ official websites.
