The short answer is that Nordik Rooms Malaga is a good-value choice if you want your own private room without paying hotel prices. However, there is one thing you should know before you book, and that is the shared bathrooms.

I am Danish; I have lived and travelled in Spain for years, and I now call Madrid home. I stayed at Nordik Rooms Urban – Trinidad “Mariehamn” for four nights on my own in May, while I was visiting a friend and exploring Malaga.

In this review, I will take you through the self check-in, the private room, the shared kitchen, the bathrooms, and the patio, and whether Trinidad is a safe area to stay as a solo female traveler.

Let’s dive into it!

The Short Version: Is Nordik Rooms Malaga Worth It?

Yes, in my opinion, Nordik Rooms Malaga is worth it, especially if you are traveling solo and want a private room on a budget in Malaga!

Nordik Rooms Urban Trinidad “Mariehamn” is a small guesthouse with private rooms, a shared kitchen, shared bathrooms, and a traditional Andalucian patio.

The guesthouse sits on a quiet street in the Trinidad neighborhood, about a 10-minute walk from the center of Malaga.

The Nordik Rooms guesthouse in Trinidad is run by a company called Nordik Company, which runs several guesthouses and apartments in Malaga.

Three things made my stay at Nordik Rooms Malaga work:

  • A private room with a clean, Scandinavian look, so I never had to sleep in a dorm
  • A shared kitchen where I could make my own breakfast and save money
  • A quiet street where I felt safe walking home at night

The one downside is the bathrooms. There are only two shared bathrooms for the whole house, and they did not seem to be cleaned during my stay.

Why I Chose Nordik Rooms for My Solo Trip to Malaga

I was traveling to Malaga alone, and I wanted my own room without paying for a full hotel.

The photos of Nordik Rooms Malaga showed modern rooms with a very Scandinavian, almost IKEA look. A Scandi like me, of course, fell for that, and it was honestly one of the main reasons I booked!

The shared kitchen was the other big selling point for my travel budget!

For the 4 nights at the Nordik Rooms guesthouse, I paid € 279, so it comes down to an average of € 69.75 per night, which isn’t bad for a touristy city like Malaga.

Nordik Rooms Trinidad: My Honest Review

Now let’s break the review down a bit more and look at what it is actually like to stay at Nordik Rooms Trinidad, from the check-in to the patio.

What Is Nordik Rooms Malaga?

Nordik Rooms has several guesthouses in and around Malaga, each named after a town or city in the Nordic countries. The one I stayed in is called “Mariehamn”, and it is on Calle Francisco Monje in Trinidad.

I would describe Nordik Rooms Trinidad as an apart-hostel. That means you get your own private room with a lock, but you share the kitchen, the bathrooms, and the patio with the other guests.

Checking In Without a Reception

There is no reception at Nordik Rooms Malaga. Instead, you get a code on your phone that you use to check in, and it only works from 3 pm.

After that, you use the app or the code every time you come in, both at the front door and at the door to your room.

At first, I found it a little strange to stay somewhere without reception. I am used to the feeling of safety that comes from knowing there is someone downstairs.

However, the self check-in turned out not to be a problem at all, and in the end I actually saw it as a plus!

The Private Room

The rooms at Nordik Rooms Trinidad are modern and simple, with that clean Scandinavian design I fell for.

The bed was okay. I am quite picky with mattresses, and while the mattress was nothing impressive, it was good for the price!

In the room, there was a small desk and a rail to hang your clothes on. The room is not big, but it was just right for one person.

I could see the room working for a couple too, but as a solo traveler, I really enjoyed having it all to myself!

The Shared Kitchen

The common areas at Nordik Rooms Malaga are the kitchen, the bathrooms, and the patio.

The kitchen was right in front of my room, which was a little annoying in the evenings when people were cooking. Since there were not many guests at the same time, it was actually not too bad!

The kitchen had basic appliances for cooking. Each room had its own box for storing food, and the fridge was divided into a section for each room too.

For me, having the kitchen was really nice! I went to DĆa, a budget supermarket chain you find all over Spain, and bought yogurt and granola for breakfast.

That way I did not have to spend money going out for breakfast each morning, which adds up quickly when you travel alone!

The Shared Bathrooms

The bathrooms were the downside of my stay at Nordik Rooms Trinidad.

There are two bathrooms, each with a toilet and a shower. They are quite small, and it looked like one big bathroom had been divided into two smaller ones.

The bathrooms were clean when I arrived, but it did not seem like they were cleaned during my stay. That is annoying when you share a bathroom with people you do not know.

During the week, it was fine. On the weekend, more guests arrived, and one morning there was a real rush for the toilets.

Two bathrooms for four rooms, with one or two people in each room, is simply too few when the house is full!

The showers are tiny, and the water gets really hot! Be careful when you turn it on, so you do not burn yourself.

The Patio

The patio was definitely a nice touch at Nordik Rooms Malaga.

It is the original patio of the old house, and it really felt like living in a traditional Spanish home! There were beautiful flowers and azulejos, which are the painted ceramic tiles that are so traditional in Spain.

There was not much seating on the patio, though. There were only a couple of not very comfortable chairs and a small table.

I visited in May, when the weather was getting warmer, so it was lovely to sit outside and eat my lunch or relax with my computer!

The house was rarely full, so I never had trouble finding a seat. Still, I think a bit more seating would make the patio at Nordik Rooms even better.

Is Trinidad a Safe Area to Stay in Malaga?

Nordik Rooms Trinidad is in the Trinidad neighborhood, just across the Guadalmedina River from the old town of Malaga.

Trinidad does not usually have the best reputation in Malaga. However, the location of Nordik Rooms is actually really nice!

At no point did I feel unsafe walking home as a solo female traveler. The street is calm and quiet at night.

My room faced the street, and apart from the occasional person passing by, I had no issues with noise. And I am very noise-sensitive!

It only took me about 10 minutes to walk across the river and into the center of Malaga, so you are in the middle of everything very quickly!
