If I were visiting Barcelona for the first time (with what I know after living in the city for two years, from 2023 to 2025), I would stay in Eixample.

Eixample is central, safe, beautifully built, well connected by metro, and within walking distance of both the Old Town and the main Modernista sights, without the crowds and noise of the Gothic Quarter.

If you’d rather be in the Old Town, I would recommend to choose El Born over the Gothic Quarter.

If you can stay longer, I strongly recommend doing so, as there are plenty of day trips and quieter corners of the city worth your time.
