🚗🇦🇷Everyday moments from Buenos Aires🇦 🚗🇦🇷Everyday moments from Buenos Aires🇦🇷 🚗

When I posted tourist content about Buenos Aires, I always get complains from Argentines stating that it doesn’t relate to their reality. And when I share that we decided to move from Buenos Aires, I tend to get questions from foreigners about why… So, I believe it’s same to share a little bit about why:

ECONOMY & INFLATION - Argentine economy has been a roller coaster for many year but recent years has been increasingly bad. To mention one of the many things affecting Argentina: inflation. Inflation means that the salary for an average person decreases its value over the cause of just a couple of months. Companies does adjust employees salary for inflation every now and then. But it mostly doesn’t add up in the long run and the employees’ purchase power over all has decreased. For you to get an idea, my last salary adjustment for inflation in Argentina before we left was of 50%… It might seem like a nice raise. But the estimated yearly inflation rate is around 100%?! Many Argentines are struggling to make ends met!

VIOLENCE & AGGRESSION - The tight economic situation also affects other aspects of everyday life. In my opinion, many people (especially in Buenos Aires) are on the edge. Getting into arguments over stupid things in the street, answering badly to one another… Not to mention the extremes of pickpocketing and robbing (something I have been fortunate enough to never experience first hand). In general, the negativity and verbal violence in Buenos Aires was really getting to me at the end. When visiting Buenos Aires and Argentina in general, you might not experience this or realize it as many people are properly still more open than what most of us are used to from our home country.

ACCESS TO PRODUCTS - This might seems like the most superficial reason but it does have some truth to it. Taxes, tariffs, and import restrictions make it hard to get certain things in Argentina. Or what you can get is extremely expensive. There are so many things people in other countries take for granted, that’s hard to get in Argentina.
